Unity
Garage Hymnal
I was intrigued by the name of the group Garage Hymnal. Did it mean that they recorded this CD in a garage? If that was the case, wouldn’t it sound a little tinny? A quick look at the back page of information that you find in CDs revealed that this was not the case. Unity was recorded live with no studio overdubs. This alarmed me more, as I don’t like the sound of clapping interrupting my enjoyment of a CD.
However, the clapping played a small role and the songs were well performed. My favourite song was “Found in You”, which had lots of exciting guitar and drum accompaniment.
The songs include the unusually named “Hymn 140” (adapted from the hymn by Charles Wesley), “We Praise You” (adapted from the ancient liturgical hymn “Te Deum” and “Fairest Lord Jesus”). A number of the other songs are inspired by Bible verses, such as “Unity” (John 17:11), “We are Waiting” (Titus 2:11-14), “Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20), “Sunday Came” (John 20:29) and “May the Words” (Psalm 19:14).
