Sex and the City 2

Sex and the City 2

(MA) Roadshow 2 Disc DVD/BD

You might disagree strongly with many of the moral outlooks in the hugely popular Sex and the City TV series, yet enjoy its frank, risqué approach to modern women doing it for themselves (and their friends, of course).

Without necessarily condoning their behaviour, what columnist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her varied gal pals spent years discussing or struggling with are issues experienced by women everywhere.

This strongly suggests these beloved New York ladies should be relevant wherever they go but Sex And The City 2 takes them out of the Big Apple, plonks them in Abu Dhabi. The results are dull at best, offensive at worst.

Most disappointing is how attempts at valid sexual/social observations about a repressive culture flow with the sensitivity and consideration of red-neck bozos. How not to interact with opposing viewpoints is demonstrated powerfully by Samantha (Kim Cattrall) brandishing condoms in a public place and getting snotty about being arrested for beach sex.
