John Dominic Crossan to visit Sydney

The renowned international progressive biblical scholar John Dominic Crossan will visit Sydney to deliver a series of lectures and one major public address in September 2012.

The nine lecture series to be delivered over three days, September 4 to September 6, 2012, is “The Power of Parable: How Fiction By Jesus Became Fiction About Jesus”.

The public address exploring a Christian theology of the Bible, 7 pm on September 7, is “Divine Violence: How to Read the Christian Bible and Still Be a Christian”.

The “Common Dreams on the Road Event” is  jointly sponsored by a cooperative of progressive groups in and around Sydney.

John Dominic Crossan

Born in Ireland, Professor Emeritus at DePaul University, Chicago, Dom Crossan is widely regarded as the foremost historical Jesus scholar of our time.

He was the Co-Chair of the Jesus Seminar from 1985–1996. He has authored many books including The Historical Jesus, The Birth of Christianity, In Parables, God and Empire, and The Greatest Prayer.

He has also co-authored several books with Marcus Borg including The First Christmas, The First Paul, and The Last Week. He is a regular presenter on many of the Living the Questions DVD resources.
