To celebrate the first 18 months of Australia’s inaugural Social Benefit Bond pilot, UnitingCare Burnside is holding Breaking New Ground: The Newpin Social Innovation Conference on 22 April 2015.

The conference will focus on the development of Social Benefit Bonds and Social Investment, as a means to supporting innovative practice and harnessing new funding within Australia’s social services sector. There will also be workshops exploring good practice in restoration and in achieving outcomes in the mental health arena.

The Hon Mike Baird MP, Premier of New South Wales will open the conference, with Jenny Brockie Australian award-winning journalist, documentary-maker and host of the SBS program Insight as MC and facilitator.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Cheryl Kernot, Social Business Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact, who will tackle the critical questions around social investment
  • Emeritus Professor Dorothy Scott OAM, Patron of Newpin, who will address the underlying issues facing vulnerable families with complex needs and the crucial role played by innovation and good, evidence based practice.
