More Details:
Is there any sort of contemplative way of living that might be creative rather than merely reactive in the midst of so much loss of a sense of who any of us are? Do the new nationalisms and populisms and the ‘enlightened’ resistance to them share far more than might seem to be the case? How might the instruction ‘Love your enemies’ be seen to have real bite in this situation?
James Alison, priest, theologian, author and interpreter of the thought of René Girard concerning desire and violence in the field of Theology, will be addressing these issues.
Eremos Institute’s Promotions officer, Katy Gerner, said that the talk is the final in the Eremos Institute’s 2017 series, ‘What in the world is going on?’, and will precede the Eremos Annual General Meeting.
The talk will begin at 2 pm and be followed with open discussion and afternoon tea. The AGM will commence about 3.45pm.
The cost is $25 or $20 for Eremos members, and $5 less for early bird bookings which need to be paid by October 4. It is $10 for full time students. Tickets can be booked online at https://www.trybooking.com/QYEQ but only cash and cheques can be taken at the door.
More information can be found on James Alison at https://jamesalison.co.uk.
