The Night of Broken Glass
The horrific event in November 1938 which saw the burning of Germany’s synagogues and the looting of Jewish shops heralded the start of the ruthless campaign to transport millions of Jews to the concentration camps — many never to return.
This event will be commemorated in the amphitheatre of Sydney’s Martin Place (between Pitt and Castlereagh Streets) on November 9 at 12 noon.
The service will last approximately 60 minutes, featuring Fay Sussman, who will sing Yiddish songs, and the Emanuel School choir.
During the service three schoolgirls will read extracts from Anne Franks’ diary. They are about the same age as Anne was at the time she was in hiding and in the concentration camp.
