Special Religious Education – getting ready for 2015!
At the time when many SRE teams are busy preparing Christmas assemblies and how to finish off the year with the classes, it’s almost time to think about preparing for 2015! We have always encouraged SRE teacher training but now participating in initial and ongoing training is part of the basic Department of Education expectations for SRE teachers, just like getting a Working With Children Check number and Safe Church Awareness Training.
We want to have all SRE teachers certified with current knowledge and skills for the classrooms of 2015 and beyond. As such, to be authorised for 2015 SRE teaching all new and existing SRE teachers need to have begun recognised training about SRE teaching, building to an SRE certificate. The essential introductory modules are SRE in Government schools (module 1) and classroom management (Module 4), of the 6 module SRE teacher certificate. The training framework and upcoming courses/modules are listed on the website below or you can contact and request a workshop in your region.
We recognise that this is a big commitment, but it’s fitting as SRE teaching is a high calling. Some congregations have been avid supporters of SRE in their local schools for more years than the Uniting Church has existed! To continue to offer this ministry to our communities, we much ensure that we bring our best to this partnership between local public schools and churches.
