Young adults empowered to lead at NYALC

The National Young Adult Leaders Conference (NYALC) is being held in Burleigh Heads Queensland from 8 – 13 July. This is a unique opportunity for young leaders to join others, strengthen their faith and experience teaching, learning, worship and reflection and encourage and foster leadership potential in the Uniting Church.

“This is more than just a conference; it’s a gift to our young adults who want to be active in service and leadership. We’ve got an unbelievably wonderful collection of UCA leaders there for you to share your life and faith with, including President Stuart McMillan and the Chairperson of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress Rev. Dennis Corowa,” says Tom Kerr, National Faith Development Consultant (Youth and Young Adults).

“The conference provides core messages of the Christian faith that can motivate, guide and empower leadership and service, to be relational, gracious, inclusive and open to working collaboratively with others of good will. In terms of Christ – like character development, the conference models and gives real life practise in being open to others, inclusive relationally, appreciative, contemplative, compassionate, friendly and proactive about growing in grace.”

Let’s not forget the moderators, young adult ministry workers and the leaders from various cultural groups. Attendees will be able to join a network of young adults that they can get into conversations with, hear from others wrestling with deeper issues of faith and be empowered and encouraged. UCA leaders coming to be mentors include President Stuart McMillan the Chairperson of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress Rev. Dennis Corowa, the President Elect and South Australian Moderator Deidre Palmer, The Northern Synod Moderator Rev. Thresi Mauboy Wohangara to support and encourage attendees.

Churches can sponsor an emerging young adult leader to be blessed and empowered by the National Young Adult Leaders Conference. Consider sending one of your gifted young adults to the conference to be inspired in their leadership.

Participant testimonials

“I have been enthused and reinvigorated, I feel as though I am ready to go out and change the world! Let’s go do it…  My world view has changed, before I came on the NYALC I had never met an Aboriginal person. Meeting, talking and sharing with some indigenous folk and people of other cultures has helped me change my world view.”

“I think the changes in me have been subtle but profound. A shift in energy, a reminder of direction, an encouragement of call and vision and recognition of community. NYALC has been affirming, focusing, inspiring challenging and restful. It has helped me to be in a constructive space emotionally, socially and physically for the coming year of ministry.”
