UnitingWorld appoints Associate Director of Church Connections

Rob Floyd, National Director of UnitingWorld is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Sureka Goringe as the new Associate Director of Church Connections.

Sureka comes to UnitingWorld with significant experience in both the business and charitable sectors and within the Uniting Church in Australia. She has served on the National Committee of the Relief and Development Unit of UnitingWorld for five years, the last two years as Chairperson.  Sureka was also the Executive Director of the successful UnitingWomen conference in September, a conference under the auspices of the Uniting Church that brought together more than 500 women from across Australia.

Born in Sri Lanka and having lived in Bangladesh, Botswana and the UK before moving to Australia, Sureka has broad experience of our partner church contexts. This, coupled with her management and organisational experience will make her ideally suited to leading our Church Connections Unit in its work.

UnitingWorld’s Church Connections Unit focuses on three main areas: Christian Leadership – helping our overseas church partners equip and resource leaders for the future; Ministry in the Margins – resourcing our partners to support the most vulnerable in their communities; and Education and Contextual Learning – partnering with churches to learn from one another, advocate together on global issues and develop culturally relevant theologies.

Sureka will commence on 24 November, 2014.
