The Uniting Church in Australia Celebrates Ministry of Aunty Dorrie at Coraki

A ‘Closure of Ministry Service’ of Rev. Dorothy Harris-Gordon (Aunty Dorrie) will be held in Coraki on Sunday 24 August to commemorate and celebrate ministry of Aunty Dorrie. She is a widow of the Rev Charles Harris who is the Co-founder of Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress.

The Service will commence at 2.00 pm at ‘Marmung Uniting Fellowship’ Uniting Church, Adam Street Coraki. Members of the community are welcome and invited to attend the service.   She will be awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation to be presented by the NSW Congress Chairperson, Diane Torrens.

Rev. Dorothy Harris-Gordon has been a longstanding ministry agent in the Marmung Uniting Fellowship. She was ordained in 1999 and was the first ordained Aboriginal woman in Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress of NSW and the ACT Region. She has been serving this ministry since 1999. Aunty Dorrie will continue to serve in the Regional Council of Congress NSW/ACT as State Elder and Deputy Chairperson and a State Elder representative at National Congress.

The Marmung Uniting Fellowship is an Aboriginal congregation operating in partnership with the Lismore Regional Mission. Marmung congregation’s mission focus is working among Aboriginal people across the Lismore/Northern Rivers region including assisting youth recapture their heritage.
