Blessings from the Bible: Favourite Verses and Life Stories by People from Penrith Uniting Church

John Lees (Ed.), Christian Centre, Penrith

Blessings from the Bible is a ring-bound booklet of the Penrith Uniting Church congregation’s favourite verses and their reflections on those verses.

The reflections are nicely written — simply and from the heart. They cover topics such as death, dealing with stress, friendship, childhood memories, beautiful places and illness. There will be plenty of life experiences for readers to identify with.

However, the best parts of the booklet are the photographs. They are just beautiful. Unfortunately, I can’t compliment the photographer because who ever they are is not mentioned in the booklet — they should be.

The booklet also has no index and there appears to be no particular order for the reflections. It would have been better to group them in topic order or even in the order the verses appear in the Bible. Perhaps the congregation could think about this for the next edition?

Blessings from the Bible could be used as a devotional and would make a nice gift. The money raised from the sale of the booklets will go towards the mission of Penrith Uniting Church.
