Postcards on a Journey
John Mallison, HSM Publishing
John Mallison chose the subtitle for this book “Reflections of a Christ Follower”.
He begins with his childhood in a family reinforced by prayer and commitment to the scriptures. Sharing with us some of his experiences in a unique Christian ministry, he points to the writer of Psalm 71: “The history of one’s faith journey should not only be recalled and learned by oneself but also be retold to others for their benefit.”
Although John Mallison is widely known, this book was not produced for recognition, but in the humility of a Christ follower.
Behind his commitment was a faith in the greatness and goodness of God and an awareness of the wonder of all creation.
Two things stand out in this life journey: his reinforcement of small groups within the life of the Christian community and the development of mentoring.
In this latter area of his ministry, John Mallison provided support in standing beside leaders in many difficult and dangerous parts of the world, where the Christian Church faces hardship, persecution and oppression.
He states his conviction: “As followers of Christ, we are essentially ‘sunrise people’.
We are people of the resurrection, inheriting all the power of Christ’s resurrection to everyday situations, whether they are expected or unexpected, wanted or unwanted, short-term or ongoing.”
In pursuing this, he paid tribute to his companions along the way and to his wife and family.
