Unto Us

Paul Tate, World Library

Unto Us is a collection of choral and liturgical compositions, which can be used during the Advent and Christmas seasons. The instruments used are piano, bass, percussion, guitar, violin, cello, flute and recorders; all of which help make for a very pretty sound throughout.

The singers, particularly Paul Tate, also sing beautifully in the nice, clear way that means listeners can understand every word.

My favourite piece was Every Nation on Earth: Psalm 72. I liked the use of recorders (almost in a Baroque style), drums and tambourine. The song had a wonderful simplicity and richness. I also enjoyed the more upbeat A Voice Cries Out and the loving, deeply felt Joseph’s Song.

Tate writes on the inside cover of the CD how much he enjoyed composing the melodies and harmonic progressions on Unto Us. This shines out in the music; there is a real joyfulness to it.

Unto Us will make a wonderful Christmas gift.
