Synod celebrates people’s ministry service

A ministry celebration at the meeting of the Uniting Church Synod of New South Wales and the ACT in Newcastle honoured those in ordained and lay ministry who had served or would serve the church in the future.

Special mention was given to the Rev. Malcolm Macleod to honour 71 years since his ordination in 1940.

Other jubilarians celebrated included:

*Nine people ordained in 1961: Deaconess Val Boreham, and the Rev. Jan Alblas, Milton Brown, Professor Richard Campbell, Alan Jackson, Dr Eric Knight, William (Bill) Rosier, Alan Smart, Dr Peter Swain, and

*Four people ordained in 1951: the Rev. Dr Colin Ford, Winifred Hilliard, Stanley Redden and Burnel Reeve.

The Synod also recognised ministers of the word/deacons and ordained and lay pastors commissioned since the 2010 Synod meeting and retired ministers of the word, deacons, deaconesses and lay pastors.

Responding on behalf of all those honoured, the Rev. Will Pearson said it had been a privilege to serve the Uniting Church.

He said he hoped that he and others had left a lasting legacy — “faithful footprints that others will follow”.
