Islamist insurgents attacked the outskirts of northeast Nigeria’s main city, Maiduguri, on Sunday. A gun battle with soldiers killed at least eight people, according to witnesses and a security source.

Militant group Boko Haram has killed thousands since it launched its revolt in Maiduguri five years ago. The group wants the city to become the capital of a separate Islamist state.

Canadian-born pop singer Justin Bieber claims he is finished with his bad-boy persona — and he wants to change. Bieber recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and later posted a video where he apologised to fans.

In the video, Bieber said: “I wanted to make a video because I wanted to express how I feel right now. Today, I was on Ellen and it was a lot of fun. She’s amazing. But I was really nervous, and I think I was nervous because I was afraid of what people are thinking about me right now. It’s been a minute since I’ve been in a public appearance and I didn’t want to come off arrogant or conceited — basically how I’ve been acting the past year, or a year and a half.”

‘David and Goliath’ Director Says the Film Will Honour God

David and Goliath director Tim Chey has said his upcoming film will honour God, unlike some of its predecessors in the Bible-based film category. According to Christian Today, Chey said he is an Evangelist, and seeks to accurately portray the biblical telling of David and Goliath.

“Well, first off, I’m not only a director, but also an evangelist. So obviously I’m not going to make a film that’s biblically not correct or does not give honour to the Lord,” Chey said.
