Taking a Dissuasive Approach to Drugs – Lessons from Portugal

What happened when Portugal decriminalised all drugs?

A Conversation with Dr Nuno Capaz

The ACT Government is currently debating a Drugs of Dependence (Personal Cannabis Use) Bill 2018.

Can more be done to help people who use drugs to seek access to treatment, harm reduction, employment and social services – and out of the deadly cycle of drug use?

Uniting NSW.ACT, the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and ACT, and the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Association (ATODA) thinks so. We invite you to hear how Portugal has effectively addressed this issue.

Dr Nuno Capaz holds a PhD in Sociology and is the Vice-President of the Commission for the Dissuasion of Drug Dependence in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Canberra Drug Policy Series

A collaborative project of ATODA, Uniting & the ANU School of Sociology
