An invitation for leaders and organisers of local churches to attend a workshop

The NSW Ministry of Police and Emergency Services has funded a project to assist churches and faith groups to more effectively engage in disaster resilience, response and recovery within their communities. As part of this project, a short workshop will be run in the Hunter Region by the Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network (DRCN). The DRCN is an ecumenical and multi-‐faith network of disaster recovery trained clergy and ministry agents that has been responding to disasters and emergencies in NSW since 2011.

After closely examining recent disasters and emergencies in NSW, (such as the Quakers Hill Nursing Home Fire, the Riverina Floods, the Blue Mountains Bushfires and the Martin Place siege, to name a few), many lessons have been learnt that would assist churches and faith groups to prepare their congregations and communities to respond to disasters.

You are invited to attend a short ‘around the table’ workshop in East Maitland to learn how the disaster response and recovery process is structured and how faith groups and churches could engage in ministering to their communities during times of crisis.

The workshop facilitates experiences and ideas to be shared, and enables attendees to learn about effective disaster response, recovery and resiliency.
