The Lumads (Indigenous Peoples of the Philippine island of Mindanao) have established 146 community schools and programs and are providing education for Lumad children. State forces under the Phil Pres. Aquino’s counter-insurgency program – the Operation Bayanihan, are now attacking these community schools. There is also an allegation that a Lumad girl (14 yrs. old) — has been found to be raped while under military custody. The police have asked the Philippine Army to present the three soldiers suspected of raping the Lumad girl.
