Country preschool fundraiser caught up in Fifty Shades of Grey controversy

A regional preschool fundraising event has been cancelled at the last minute, after UnitingCare declared the sexually explicit movie Fifty Shades of Grey was an inappropriate choice for a film screening.

A US grassroots movement is urging people to donate $50 to women’s shelters rather than see Fifty Shades of Grey as the controversial film sparks global debate about domestic abuse.

Through its depiction of explicit sexual practices including domination and submission, activists have accused the first film in author E.L James’ Fifty Shades trilogy of blurring the lines between healthy and harmful sex.
